Title in PALI, SANSKRIT : Text in Sanskrit and Pali. The Dathavamsa, an eccelesiastical chronicle, gives an account of Buddhas Tooth Relic brought to Ceylon (Srilanka) by Dantakumara, a Prince of Kalings. It is a non-canonical book written by the distinguished monk Dhammakitti at the request of Parakkamavahu I at the beginning of the 13th Century A.D. on the basis of the Daladavamsa, an old sinhalese chronicle. It contains five chapters and is written not in pure Pali but in Sanskritized Pali. The book is indeed an important contribution to the Pali literature and further indicates Pali as a medium of epic poetry.
